More than just a ranged weapon is a master combat achievement which requires the player to kill the Phantom Muspah via the use of salamanders.
Strategy
All damage dealt must be by salamander, including the prayer shield phase (using corruption is allowed). The best salamander is the tecu salamander, which uses irit tar as ammunition. It is recommended to use the salamander in Ranged mode (Flare) during the Muspah's ranged phase, and in Magic mode (Blaze) during its melee phase, along with a full gear and prayer switches for each style. As freezes and thralls cannot be used, it is useful to instead bring the runes for greater corruption.
As the salamander's attack range is 1, players must use the step-back method during the Muspah's melee phase to avoid excessive damage. During the fight, try to ensure spikes are placed around the edges of the arena rather than in the center, otherwise the tiles around the Muspah may fill with spikes during the final phase and leave the player unable to attack. Greater corruption is invaluable for the prayer shield phase (Smite is more difficult to use than usual as salamanders' attack speed in Ranged mode is 4 while the Muspah's is 5).
Note: As the player can only deal damage with salamanders, any other types of damage such as thralls or recoil damage will automatically fail the achievement.
