A mining helmet is an item primarily dropped by Cave goblin miners. It is dropped unlit, but can be lit by players who have a Firemaking level of 65. It can also be obtained by showing the brooch to Mistag after completing The Lost Tribe quest, or purchased from Miltog's Lamps in the Dorgesh-Kaan market place. It has the same stats as an iron med helm.

This is one of six light sources that can be equipped; the others being the Kandarin headgear, the Firemaking cape, the max cape, the Abyssal Lantern, and the Bruma torch.

A lit mining helmet does not go out on its own, so you don't need a tinderbox when visiting a dark place if you have this helmet. You can extinguish it if you want it unlit. It can however, be 'Magically extinguished' when in combat with Scabarites.

Lighting this helmet in the Lumbridge Castle cellar is a hard requirement for the Lumbridge & Draynor Diary. One can be obtained by giving a brooch (found at the cellar side of the goblin maze) to Mistag.

You are able to boost in order to light the helmet. It does not need to be worn for its light source effect to function.
