Growthlings are monsters that appear during the fight with Bryophyta. She will occasionally summon growthlings to attack the player. Even though Bryophyta can continue summoning them throughout the fight, there can only be three growthlings present in her lair at any given time.

There is a 1/5 chance that Bryophyta will spawn growthlings each time she attacks, which she does at an interval of 6 ticks (3.6 seconds).^[1] Furthermore, there is a cooldown that restricts the spawn of growthlings for a period of 20 ticks, although the circumstances that trigger this cooldown period are not fully understood.^[2] She will only spawn growthlings if the player is attacking her.

Growthlings can be instantly killed by equipping an axe or magic secateurs and left-clicking on them. It is also possible to use an axe or secateurs on the growthlings to kill them. Should players forget to bring one, they can take a bronze axe from the logs on the eastern side of Bryophyta's lair.
