Root kindling is an item obtained during The Final Dawn, being the result of cutting ancient roots with a knife blade.

They are used in the moon puzzle room within the ruins beneath the Crypt of Tonali, being offered to the moon statue; the correct amounts must be offered in order to complete the puzzle, which are based on the total number of lit braziers.
