Key points
- Click the ground or the minimap to walk; click the run orb to run.
- Running uses run energy, which comes back while walking or standing still.
- Home Teleport takes any character back to Lumbridge, once every 30 minutes.
- The Wilderness, north of Varrock and Edgeville, is where other players can attack.
Walking and running
Characters walk unless told to run. Click the run orb beside the minimap to run: twice as fast, but it uses run energy. Energy drains faster the more a character carries, so run back to a resource with an empty inventory rather than to the bank with a full one. It comes back while walking or standing still, and a higher Agility level makes it last longer.
The world map
The world map, opened from its button by the minimap, shows the whole world with every town, dungeon and quest start. This site has the same map, searchable for banks, shops, monsters and quests: open the map.
The main towns
| Town | Where | Known for |
|---|---|---|
| Lumbridge | The middle of the free map | Where new players arrive and respawn. Castle bank, tutors, cows and chickens. |
| Draynor Village | West of Lumbridge | A bank, willow trees, fishing, and Draynor Manor. |
| Varrock | North of Lumbridge | The biggest city: the Grand Exchange, many shops, and many quest starts. |
| Falador | West of Varrock | A walled city with two banks, near the Dwarven Mine. |
| Al Kharid | East of Lumbridge, over a toll gate | A desert town with a bank, a furnace and warriors to fight. The gate costs 10 coins, or nothing after Prince Ali Rescue. |
| Edgeville | North-west of Varrock | A bank and a furnace on the edge of the Wilderness. |
| Port Sarim | South of Falador | Boats to Karamja, and the start of Pirate’s Treasure. |
Teleports
Every character can cast Lumbridge Home Teleport from the spellbook, free, once every 30 minutes. It is the fastest way back to safety from almost anywhere.
Other teleports cost runes. Varrock Teleport, at Magic 25, is the first most players learn. Members have many more ways to travel.
The Wilderness
Careful. North of Edgeville and Varrock lies the Wilderness, where players can attack each other. A ditch marks its edge, and a level on screen, 1 to 56, rises further north. Dying there to another player loses most of what was carried. Stay out until Death and staying safe makes sense.
