Bank-use item

Bank-use items are items which have a feature that's only accessible when standing in a bank or within 2 tiles of most bankers, bank booths, or bank chests. All safe areas in PvP are automatically considered "bank tiles" for the purpose of bank-use items.
While the exact reason for bank-use item restrictions is unknown, they most likely exist to prevent players from bringing excess materials into boss or skilling encounters. The limitations on these items are not always consistent; for example, the ring of the elements prevents uncharging outside of a bank, but the Soul bearer can be used to uncharge up to 1,000 soul and blood runes from any place in Gielinor. Coin coffers are not currently known to have any bank tiles around them.

Both bank notes and the looting bag have functions that are only usable at a bank, but neither of these functions are based on ground tiles. The looting bag's bank-use option is based on whether or not the bank interface is open, and bank notes' ability to be unnoted is based on proximity to a banker; for this reason, these functions can be used at places that don't allow items based on bank tiles, such as the bank interface offered by Emerald Benedict, Odovacar in Tarn's Lair, or Eniola in the Ourania Cave.
Bank tile mechanics
Bank-use items have their features become available when standing upon a bank tile. This attribute is typically applied to any game square within the physical structure of a bank building, including additional floors. All bank chests (except those on PvP worlds) are surrounded by a 5x5 grid of bank tiles, with the centre tile containing the chest itself. Bank tiles do NOT indicate safe zones; while the two often overlap, no bank tiles around bank chests have been shown to be safe in PvP worlds.
The consistency of what is or isn't a bank tile with regards to bank buildings varies across Gielinor. It's possible that objects apply the property to tiles around them; for example, bankers typically have a 5x5 grid of bank tiles around them, similar to bank chests, resulting in bank utility being usable outside of a bank building. Some bank deposit boxes and poll booths also have bank tiles immediately adjacent (non-diagonal) to them in a "plus" fashion. However, this is also not consistent; not all bankers or poll booths display this property, such as the banker, deposit box, and poll booth in Burgh de Rott.
| Location | Image | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Lumbridge bank | The bank tiles resulting from the 5x5 zones automatically added around bankers and active booths. | |
| Zanaris bank | An example of how bank tiles can be both safe and dangerous, with the dangerous tiles resulting from the 5x5 zone added by the fairy bankers. | |
| Rogue's Den chest | A typical example of bank tiling around a bank chest. | |
| Culinaromancer's Chest | The Culinaromancer's Chest's limited bank tiling. |
Some exceptions to these rules occur, for example:
- Every tile of all four levels of the Ferox Enclave are bank tiles, even when not near a bank chest
- The basement of the Varrock west bank doesn't contain any bank tiles, despite being a part of the bank building
- The 2nd floor of the Ardougne bank doesn't have any bank tiles, but the ground floor and the 1st floor do.
- The 1st floor of Legends' Guild contains bank tiles, even though the Legends' Guild bank is on the 2nd floor.
