Haystacks are piles of hay found throughout Gielinor, especially on farms. If an empty sack is used on a haystack (or hay bale), a player will get a hay sack, which can be used for a scarecrow. One hay bale can be found just north-east of Draynor.

Haystacks can be searched, often resulting in nothing. However, there is a 10% chance[1] that players will find a needle. When this occurs, the player will say "Wow! A needle! Now what are the chances of finding that?" However, there is a 2% chance that players will get pricked with the needle, causing them to lose one hitpoint.
