Defence Matters is a grandmaster combat achievement which requires the player to kill General Graardor two consecutive times in one trip in a private instance without taking damage from his bodyguards.

Prayer Flick Method

Prayer flick the bodyguards' attacks; ideally try to make Sergeant Strongstack hit on the same tick as Graardor so both attacks are blocked. Make sure that Sergeant Steelwill and Sergeant Grimspike also attack on different ticks. Graardor has an attack speed of 6 (3.6s) while the bodyguards have an attack speed of 5 (3.0s). Walking under Graardor can help resync off-ticks.

An adaptation that might be easier but requires extended focus is to keep the minions alive after killing Graardor once, then focus on flicking them correctly without killing them as Graardor respawns. By wearing powerful defensive armour such as Justiciar armour or Torva armour, and using an Osmumten's fang with a strong shield such as the elysian spirit shield or dragonfire shield, it should be possible to tank and kill Graardor twice with a decent amount of healing supplies.

Players with knowledge of the 5:0 Tumeken's shadow strategy may opt to do a modified version of it for the achievement:

1. Kill Graardor normally, then kill Strongstack and Grimspike.
2. First kill: As Graardor respawns, kill Steelwill, then pray Protect from Missiles and do the 5:0 method to avoid both Graardor and Strongstack.
3. Continue to 5:0 after Graardor is dead in order to kill Strongstack.
4. Second kill: As Graardor respawns, kill Grimspike, then pray Protect from Magic and do the 5:0 method again.

Setup (No-Flick) Method

This method is less dependent on execution but depends heavily on a DPS check. An active slayer task/helm on top of maximum dps mage gear are key to succeeding.

Ice ancient sceptre and Tumeken's shadow are highly recommended.

1. Kill General Graardor normally, leave alive Sergeant Steelwill (Mage) with the minimum HP possible.
2. Wait for General Graardor to respawn while sitting in the north east corner. This is the setup before your first perfect kill.
3. When General Graardor spawns, switch to ranged prayer and freeze him immediately. Failures to freeze make success unlikely. With your prayer now on ranged, you are relying on your max mage bonus and defence bonuses to negate a few mage attacks.
4. When Sergeant Strongstack spawns, freeze him as well. Failures to freeze make success unlikely.
5. Kill the low-health Sergeant Steelwill. Failures to kill him on the first hit (before he damages you) make success unlikely.
6. With Sergeant Steelwill dead, you must race against his respawn timer to kill Graardor. Graardor and strongstack will likely need a re-freeze before he is dead
7. Kill Seargent Strongstack.
8. To prep for the second perfect kill, leave Sergeant Grimspike alive with minimum health and wait in the north east corner with ranged prayer active.
9. When Graardor spawns, freeze him.
10. When Sergeant Strongstack spawns, freeze him as well. Failures to freeze make success unlikely.
11. Kill the low-health Sergeant Grimspike, switch to magic prayer.
12. Kill general Graardor before Sergeant Grimspike respawns. Graardor and Strongstack will likely need a re-freeze before he is dead

By setting it up this way, players frontload the hardest of the RNG checks and set up for the safest second kill. By leaving Grimspike weakened and waiting in the North-East tile, players have additional time and a chance at Steelwill (the mage) being slow to aggro entirely, due to his south wall spawn.
