Chill is an area effect which drains each of a player's stats by one level every ten ticks (six seconds). The first hit of chill also completely drains a player's run and special attack energy to zero.
Stats do not drain any further once they reach level 1, including Hitpoints. As such, players cannot die from the mechanic; however, they can still be damaged by other monsters, making it advisable to not let the effect drain Hitpoints too low.
The tiles directly next to the ice gate do not subject the player to the chill effect, as it exists outside the pattern of 16x16 grids the effect is applied to. However, outside the gate on several tiles near the Trollweiss Dungeon cave entrance, the player is affected by chill.
Prevention
Since the effect will not trigger if an interface is open, players can open an interface (such as a quest from the quest journal) in order to indefinitely pause the mechanic. Players can also block chill by trying to activate a prayer that they haven't unlocked, although this method will not work if players have fully depleted prayer points. In both cases, getting attacked will close all interfaces and resume the chill effect.
Additionally, the Fire of Unseasonal Warmth can be built to protect players from the chill effect; however, it will only affect the area outlined in red on the map.
