The black cog is a quest item used only in Clock Tower. It is found in a burning room in the Clock Tower's basement, requiring a bucket of water in the inventory, or ice gloves or smiths gloves (i) equipped to pick up.

It is used to repair the eastern black clock spindle in the basement.

Duplicates can be acquired by picking up another one after putting the first cog on the clock spindle and before completing the quest. Once the quest is completed, the cog can not be picked up from the spawn or if the duplicate is dropped.
