A bale of flax is an item received from the Vale Totems minigame, which can be obtained as common loot from rummaging through vale offerings. Unpacking a bale of flax yields 25 unnoted flax. With the bank interface opened, players can unpack all bales of flax in their inventory directly to the bank.

Unpacking a bale of flax will display the message You unpack a bale of flax.. Unpacking a bale of flax to the player inventory yields 25 unnoted flax. If the player has less than 25 empty inventory spaces, the message You need at least 25 empty space to unpack the flax. will be displayed instead.

This item can be used to very quickly spin flax when used in combination with the bow string spool, either at a spinning wheel or with the Spin Flax spell. Assuming a fully upgraded spool, roughly 40 bowstrings per minute can be spun if using the Seers' Village spinning wheel with the medium Kandarin Diary completed. If doing an activity that does not require any inventory spaces, such as Rooftop Agility Courses, bales of flax can be used to train Crafting and Magic while training, by bringing a rune pouch with runes for Spin Flax and the bow string spool.
