The ranging pedestals can be built in the combat ring space of the combat room in a player-owned house. It requires 71 Construction to build and gives 720 experience when built. The player must have a hammer and a saw in their inventory to build it.

Like a combat ring, a player may wield any item while on the pedestal; however, the player must use Ranged or Magic against the opponent.

Players often use this type of combat room as part of a dungeon, as a "safe room", as the pedestals provide a safespot from melee attacks, both from other players and any dungeon monsters.
