The closed chest is located inside the Head Mourner's room in the basement of the Mourner Headquarters in West Ardougne. Players can obtain another broken device from the chest after they lost their first one given to them by the Head Mourner. As the device is broken upon taking it out of the chest it needs to be repaired by the nearby gnome, which requires some leather, toad crunchies and a magic log be given to him in return. While the fixed device is only needed during the Mourning's End Part I quest, it can be used as a fun weapon after the quest is completed.

Upon completion of the Song of the Elves, the chest will be full of fixed devices instead of broken ones, relieving players of the need to bring the tortured gnome a new set of materials.
