Bone in vinegar is an item that players use during the Rag and Bone Man I and Rag and Bone Man II quests. It is made by using certain one-time drop bones (such as a wolf bone) with a pot of vinegar. Due to the fact that each bone in vinegar contains a different bone, they do not stack in the inventory or bank.

All the bones in vinegar look identical, but the examine text differs for each one. For example:

• There is a cave goblin skull in here.
• There is a seagull wing in here.
• There is a ghoul bone in here.

Take care not to accidentally empty the pot during your quest or when cleaning the bones. You will be left with only the empty pot, forcing you to retrieve the bone all over again.

• The moss giant bone variant of this item is unlike all the others, weighing 0.97kg and having the examine text A Moss Giant's bone. The rest all weigh 1.36kg and when examined read There is a [monster] bone in here.
• Of the 35 bones that can be added to vinegar, 9 of them weigh a miniscule 3 grams, with the other 26 weighing 0.97kg. These 9 are goblin skull, bear ribs, ram skull, unicorn bone, giant rat bone, monkey paw, rat bone, moss giant bone, and jackal bone.
• Subtracting the weight of an empty pot (0.453kg) from the weight of a bone in vinegar should result in the weight of the bone itself plus the weight of the vinegar, yet in most cases the result is less than the weight of just the bone. In other words,

To resolve this apparent contradiction, one must assume that the bones are partially dissolved and converted to gas that has escaped the pot. In real life, calcium carbonate in bones would indeed react with acetic acid to produce and "rubbery" bone remnants.
