Wall safes are found at the end of the maze within the Rogues' Den, where eight are installed on the central pillar in the very last room of the minigame. Players can attempt to crack one of these safes for a chance at obtaining a rogue kit or rogue's equipment crate, the latter of which containing pieces of the rogue equipment set. Cracking these safes will complete the necessary task for the Falador Hard Diary.

However, attempting to crack a safe open risks triggering a floor trap, ejecting the player without being awarded either reward. Higher Thieving levels make it more likely to break into the wall-mounted strongbox without provoking the floor trap to spring.

Mechanics

Outcomes

Cracking wall safes inside the minigame can have three possible outcomes: players can either fail to crack the safe and be ejected without loot; successfully crack it open and receive either of the two reward items; or have their Thieving drained by one level, before still being awarded an item.^[1]

The mechanic leading to one of these three outcomes plays out as follows:

Roll a number 0-199.
If the number is less than or equal to the player's visible Thieving level, they receive a loot roll for the kit and crate.
If the number is greater than the player's visible Thieving level, there is a 50% chance to fail and be ejected without loot, and a 50% chance to drain Thieving by 1 while still receiving a loot roll.^[a]
When a loot roll is received, there is a 3/8 chance of obtaining a rogue kit, and a 5/8 chance of obtaining an equipment crate.

Which of the eight wall safes is opened has no bearing on the outcome of the loot roll, and any assertion of a supposed mechanism of rotation is to be considered meritless.^[2]^[3]^[4]^[5]^[6]^[7]^[8]^[9]

Rendered as a percentage, the chance of receiving a rogue equipment crate from a wall safe is 31.6% at level 1, 39.2% at level 50, and 46.9% chance at level 99, scaling linearly between.^[b]

Notes

^ As all stats are regenerated upon leaving the maze, the Thieving level drain is of little consequence.
^ Keep in mind this calculation is based on visible Thieving level, which is likely to have been lowered when reaching the wall safe.
