Unarmed

Unarmed is a style of combat in which a player is fighting with no weapons equipped. As a result, the player has no attack bonuses, besides those that may come from other items that may be equipped, such as an amulet.
In melee combat, unarmed fighting is possible through the unarmed fighting styles listed below. Most combat spells can be cast without weapon equipped, making Magic a strong option for encounters where no weapons are used. Ranged combat is not possible without a weapon, as every ranged projectile either needs to be equipped in the weapon slot, or launched from a ranged weapon.
Fighting unarmed
Beyond new players engaging in combat for the first time, there are a few reasons to use unarmed melee combat. One of those use cases is boxing, a technique typically used in single-way combat areas of the Wilderness to stay in combat with an NPC or player without killing them, to prevent another player or NPC from being able to attack you. Another use case is combat achievements, such as The Fremennik Way, requiring you to kill the boss Vorkath entirely unarmed.
Unarmed has an attack speed of 4 game ticks (one hit every 2.4 seconds), the same attacking speed as a scimitar.
Playing unarmed
Players doing non-combat activities that don't benefit from any wieldable tools are often unarmed to minimise their weight, thus enabling them to run for longer periods of time.
Other uses of unarmed
Unarmed may also be used to describe a player who has no weapons wielded or in their inventory. This context is most often used when a player may not be carrying a weapon as a requisite to travelling to a certain location. For example, "a player travelling to Entrana must be unarmed." The same applies to entering Glarial's Tomb. In addition, two players may consent to fight unarmed in the Emir's Arena. If a player has a members object wielded on a free-to-play world, the weapon's stats will not be applied, and the player will fight unarmed, appearing to punch or kick with the weapon equipped (this also applies to ranged weapons and tridents).
