The Ardougne Resistance, or simply the Resistance, is a group in Ardougne created by Elena after the Biohazard quest when she discovered that the Ardougne plague was a lie. The purpose of the group is to overthrow King Lathas and to reveal the truth about the plague. You first find out about the existence of the Resistance at the start of the Song of the Elves quest.

Elena starts the Resistance sometime between the end of Biohazard, where the plague is revealed to be fake, and the start of Song of the Elves. When she tried to recruit more members by telling them about Lathas' lie about the plague there were people who didn't believe her and instead reported her to the King or his men, resulting in Elena being arrested and imprisoned in a cell under Ardougne Castle.

After rescuing Elena from the prison at the start of Song of the Elves she takes you to a meeting in the basement of Ted and Martha Rehnison's house in West Ardougne where she introduces the Resistance and recruits you to join them. Councillor Halgrive is helping the Resistance and states that the council can't remove the King from power unless he is seen as unfit for power which is not currently the case, and that since the citizens can't be convinced in a peaceful and honest way he instead suggests that they should gather support among the masses by making them turn on the King for other reasons. You agree to help them make citizens in both West Ardougne and East Ardougne angry at the King. This is done using various means such as telling them taxes have been increased or by setting grain piles on fire, all while disguised as a mourner or Ardougne knight (in the western and eastern part of the city respectively) to make it look like its ordered by the King. The different ways to rile up the populace are all suggested by various Resistance members.

After gathering enough support the Resistance starts a revolution by attacking mourners during what is referred to as the Battle of West Ardougne. After the mourners have been defeated, the Resistance shifts focus to the eastern part of the city and the Battle of East Ardougne where you fight Knights of Ardougne and paladins working for King Lathas. The battle ends when all King Lathas' guards have been killed and after Resistance fighters find the King hiding in a wardrobe in Ardougne Castle. The King is interrogated about his actions and motivations and is afterwards sentenced to death by Ardougne's citizens for his crimes and immediately publicly executed in Ardougne market.

After the death of King Lathas the new ruler of Ardougne is King Thoros Ardignas. In RuneScape 3 King Thoros is a cousin of King Lathas, although there is no mention of any relation between the two in Old School RuneScape. There is no information about King Thoros besides the fact that he now rules Ardougne. When speaking to the new King he thanks you and the Resistance for helping remove Lathas from power and excuses himself saying that there is a lot of work to be done.

There is no direct information on what happened to the Resistance after the Ardougne Revolution. Since the groups purpose was to overthrow King Lathas and reveal his lies about the plague and both of those things were accomplished during the revolution, its likely that they disbanded and the members went back to their normal lives. The former Resistance members can be found in their usual spots throughout Ardougne, besides Elena that either is in Lletya or Prifddinas depending on the progression of Song of the Elves.

Because of the reveal that the plague was fake it is now possible to travel freely between West and East Ardougne, even though the wall and it's watchtower in the middle of the city remains. All mourners have been removed from West Ardougne and have been replaced with Ardougne knights (that only have attack/pickpocket options and can't be talked to, as opposed to their eastern counterparts).

Most members are friends of Elena that previously have helped during Plague City or Biohazard. Although Ted and Martha Rehnison don't attend the meeting at the beginning of Song of the Elves, the meeting takes place in their house so it can be assumed that they are also working with the Resistance. After the King seemingly raises taxes and makes the lives of his citizens worse at least 80 more people join the Resistance, after which the Ardougne Revolution starts.

There is no clearly stated leader of the resistance, however going by the introductory meeting it seems that Elena and Councillor Halgrive lead together. They are the two most vocal members during the meeting and it seems that they together decide what direction the Resistance should go, with other members not joining the discussion and only talks when asked for advice on how to go about making people angry. It would make sense for Elena and Halgrive to lead together considering that Elena is the founder and has always been shown to be driven to find and share the truth, while Councillor Halgrive is an established politician with insight into the rule of Ardougne.
