A lesser magical balance can be built in the elemental balance space of the games room in a player-owned house. It requires 37 Construction to build and gives 176 experience when built. The player must have a hammer and a saw in their inventory to build it.

To play the game, there must be two players. Each player has a turn at turning the sphere to the colour white, which means it has balanced with all of the elements. Using higher-level spells on it, such as Fire Wave, will make the sphere more of the element's colour than a lower-level spell, such as Fire Strike. Using this can help in turning the sphere white. To change the sphere white, you cast the spells that begin to balance it. If it is slightly green, perhaps you should not use any earth-based spells.

Each element has a colour. Air is cyan, water is blue, earth is green, fire is red. The more of an element there is, the brighter the orb will be. There are 6 levels of brightness: very slight, slight, a bit, quite, bright and glowing bright. Air and earth are opposites, as are water and fire. If the ball is cyan, you can reduce its colour by casting the opposite of air, which is earth, and vice versa. The colour of the ball will be represented by which of the two pairs is strongest. A strike spell will change the colour by 1 shade, a bolt by 2, a blast by 3, a wave by 4, and a surge by 5.
