The Candle seller in the Lumbridge Swamp near the dark hole entrance to the Lumbridge Swamp Caves sells candles for 1,000 coins each. They are so costly for the forgetful adventurer who wants to save time instead of getting better or cheaper light sources, any of which are required to explore the caves.

Open flame light sources, like a lit candle, will explode in certain parts of the caves due to swamp gas, dealing 12 damage and extinguishing the light source.

He will tell the player about different types of lanterns, including candle lantern, oil lamp, and bullseye lantern, how to make them, and which are safer to use.

• The dialogue option "No thanks, I'd rather curse the darkness" is likely a reference to the proverb "It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness."
