A weapon style is the manner of which a weapon is used in combat. When navigating the combat options tab, players are presented with a choice of options, each with an associated style which can be found by hovering the cursor over the option. The following is a list of styles organised by the type of damage they do (melee, ranged, or magic).
Melee styles
Accurate
When using the accurate style, for every point of damage a player deals, they gain 4 experience in Attack and 1.33 experience in Hitpoints. Using the accurate style provides an invisible +3 boost to your Attack level.[1]
Aggressive
When using the aggressive style, for every point of damage a player deals, they gain 4 experience in Strength and 1.33 experience in Hitpoints. Using the aggressive style provides an invisible +3 boost to your Strength level.[1]
Defensive
When using the defensive style, for every point of damage a player deals, they gain 4 experience in Defence and 1.33 experience in Hitpoints. Using the defensive style provides an invisible +3 boost to your Defence level.[1]
Controlled
When using the controlled style, for every point of damage a player deals, they gain 1.33 experience each in Attack, Strength, Hitpoints, and Defence. Using the controlled style provides an invisible +1 boost to your Attack, Strength and Defence levels.[1] This attack style is only available for certain melee weapons: longswords, scimitars, maces, spears, halberds, hastae, claws, and whips.
Ranged styles
Accurate
When using the accurate style, for every point of damage a player deals, they gain 4 experience in Ranged and 1.33 experience in Hitpoints. The accurate style allows a player to shoot less often than in the rapid style, however they receive a +3 invisible bonus to their Ranged level, thereby increasing accuracy and damage.[2]
Rapid
When using the rapid style, for every point of damage a player deals, they gain 4 experience in Ranged and 1.33 experience in Hitpoints. The rapid style allows a player to shoot more often than in the accurate style, but a player is more likely to miss (i.e. dealing 0 damage).
Longrange
When using the longrange style, for every point of damage a player deals, they gain 2 experience in Ranged, 2 experience in Defence, and 1.33 in Hitpoints. Attack range is increased with this attack style, but is not increased beyond 10 tiles for any weapon.
Using the longrange style provides an invisible +3 boost to your Defence level.[3]
Chinchompas
Chinchompas make use of their own styles: short fuse, medium fuse, and long fuse. These styles have unique mechanics which roll accuracy differently depending on the distance from thrower to target.
Accurate (Salamander)
Salamanders have their own "accurate" ranged style that does not provide any invisible level boost, and therefore behaves more like the rapid style.
Magic styles
Autocasting
Unlike other combat styles and those used by powered staves, autocast styles do not give invisible bonuses.
- The standard autocast allows a player to perform a normal magical attack and for each point of damage the spell deals, they gain 2 experience in Magic and 1.33 experience in Hitpoints, in addition to the Magic experience from casting the spell.
- The defensive autocast allows a player to perform a normal magical attack and for each point of damage the spell deals, they gain 1.33 experience in Magic, 1 experience in Defence, and 1.33 experience in Hitpoints. The experience from casting the spell is still given entirely to Magic.
Powered staff
- The accurate style allows a player to receive a +3 invisible bonus to their Magic level.[3]
- The longrange style allows a player to receive a +1 invisible bonus to their Magic level and a +3 invisible bonus to their Defence level. Attack range is increased with this attack style.[3]
Defensive (Salamander)
When wielding a salamander, players can choose a unique defensive option for its attack. It functions similar to the defensive autocast style, but it uses its own attack rather than a spell from a spellbook.

The tooltip on the combat interface for spiked weapons, such as the Anchor, will now correctly state that the Aggressive stance gives Strength XP. A typo had led to it claiming that the weapon gave Controlled XP. |
