The shield fragment is a quest item in the Another Slice of H.A.M. quest. It is one of the six artefacts obtained during the first stage of the quest by digging with a trowel in the unfinished train tunnel in Dorgesh-Kaan.

When the artefacts are cleaned using a specimen brush, one turns into the shield fragment, which must be given to Tegdak, the cave goblin, along with the other cleaned artefacts: a helmet fragment, an armour shard, a sword fragment, and an ancient mace.

Alchemy spells cannot be cast on them, attempting to do so results in the chatbox saying: "This ancient artefact resists your magic."
