A salve shard is a piece of a crystal outcrop that is obtained during the Haunted Mine quest. To extract them, a chisel must be used on one of the outcrops at the bottom level of the mine. It is used to craft a salve amulet.

If returning to mine more shards after the quest is completed, climb over the first cart, crawl down the cart tunnel leading into the Haunted Mine. Once inside, crawl through the cart tunnel immediately south in that first room. You'll arrive right next to all of the crystal outcrops.
