An old letter is an item found in the bedroom to the east on the 1st floor of the Sunrise Palace.
The letter, written by the mother of Mezpah Arkan and addressed to his father, details an incident between Mezpah and his cousin Imafore Tullus during their childhood.

Tertius,
I write to you with the deepest regret in my heart. It was not my intention to hide what happened from you. It wounds me that it has come to this. That our son felt he must write to you, so far away, rather than speak to his mother. More than that, it wounds me that you both are right, for it is clear that Imafore cannot stay under this roof any longer.
I take full responsibility. The boys' tutors told me Imafore was becoming less prone to these rages. That his time at the temple had calmed him somewhat. When I heard the boys squabbling, I did not intervene until I heard Mezpah fall.
