The Ancient Rock is located within the southern tent at the Mountain Camp. It was once owned by the Fremennik until the mountain tribe stole it when they left for the mountains. It has no special properties, but symbolises the Fremennik's refusal to use magic and instead to rely on their own abilities.^[1]

During the Mountain Daughter quest, the player must retrieve the rock for Brundt the Chieftain. The player must then mine the rock and will end up with half a rock. This can be taken back to Brundt who will provide the player a safety guarantee and allow peace between the two tribes. The rock cannot be mined again if the player has a half a rock in their inventory as the player receives a message saying: While two halves make one whole, it's better to just have half a rock. The rock cannot be mined if it is split: Someone else just had the same idea! The tent cannot be re-accessed unless the player loses the half a rock before giving it to Brundt: You already have a piece of the ancient rock, you don't need another.

The Ancient Rock cannot be reached after retrieving the rock for Brundt as the tent cannot be accessed: You don't really need to go into there again.
