Potion storage glitch

The potion storage glitch was a major glitch that occurred before an emergency server maintenance response was initiated on 1 October 2024. This glitch involved the use of the chugging barrel (formally named the pre-pot device) and the potion storage, both unlocked as rewards in the Mastering Mixology minigame. By moving all but one potion from storage into the bank, and then withdrawing potions while both the potion storage and chugging barrel interfaces were open, it was possible to duplicate potions into the barrel at the cost of making the amount in storage negative.[1]
Jagex implemented a 15-minute timer before the servers were offline so that players could move to a safe area.[2] During this 15-minute timer, there were item restrictions where players could not trade in the Grand Exchange, in any shops, and players could not pick up/drop any items on the ground. This means non-tradeable items disappeared when players were participating in minigames during this 15-minute timer. To resolve this issue with lost items, this prompted a server rollback that occurred approximately five minutes before the 15-minute timer was complete. This rollback was completed at 09:45 UTC on 1 October 2024 and only restored gameplay before the 15-minute timer (before the servers were momentarily offline).
After this rollback, Jagex conducted more testing with a fix to the potion storage glitch[3] until the servers were back online at 13:00 UTC.[4]
