A cannon can be found on the upper deck of the The Adventurous, which is used by the player character during the events of Cabin Fever to ward off Bill Teach's rival captain.

The cannon is initially encountered in its broken state, and must be repaired by swapping its ruptured barrel with an intact cannon barrel taken from the gun locker below deck. While swapping out the barrel, the broken cannon will briefly appear in its fully stripped state while the animation is underway.

Once repaired, the following procedure must be observed to arm and fire the gun:

Firing procedure

  • Use a charge of gunpowder on the cannon.
  • Use a ramrod on the cannon to tamp the powder.
  • Load the cannon with either a canister or a cannon ball.
  • Add a fuse to the cannon.
  • Fire the cannon.
  • Use a ramrod on the cannon again to clean out the barrel.

The ramrod, canister, cannon ball, and fuse can all be sourced from the gun locker in the ship's hold. Gunpowder meanwhile can be taken from the powder barrel found right beside the cannon. If the player fails to clean out the barrel with a ramrod after firing a shot, the cannon will explode, dealing a small amount of damage to the player. The exploded gun barrel will then need to be replaced in the same way as at the beginning of hostilities.

When shooting at the enemy crew with a canister shot, the pirates on the opposing ship must be lined up with the cannon's field of fire in order for the shot to connect. When shooting cannon balls at the hull of the enemy vessel however, success is determined by a random roll scaling with the player's Ranged level.

Success chance

The chance of successfully damaging the enemy vessel's hull when firing the cannon scales with the player's Ranged level.[1] If you fail, you miss the other ship and will have to clean and reload the cannon to try again. Both cannonballs and canisters use the same success chance. When firing canisters, once successfully fired, there are two possible animations that can be played where the shrapnel spreads out more or less (50% chance of each, unaffected by levels).
