Coins are sometimes dropped upon killing a mouse inside the mouse hole during Grim Tales. When on the ground, the coins appear much larger than regular coins due to the player's small size after drinking a shrink-me-quick potion. However, these coin objects become the regular-sized coins items when added to the player's inventory, and remain the typical size if dropped on the ground again. When picked up, they yield between 12 to 131 coins.

As these coins are technically a scenery object rather than an item, they will despawn if another object spawns in their place, namely coins, cheese, or bones dropped by subsequent mice. They will also despawn in less time than items normally dropped from monsters, only 1 minute and 30 seconds instead of a full 2 minutes.

The four-lobed reliefs on the faces of the coins are only otherwise visible on the similarly oversized coins found in The Mimic's lair.
