Current style

The Message of the week is the banner and two models that are consistently at the bottom of the Welcome Screen. Since the release of Old School RuneScape, there have been over 650 messages of the week.

The banner displays the message of the week, chosen by Jagex. The message of the week will summarise the major changes in the most recent update, often with a humorous twist. Visually, the banner is fielded by two chosen models, sometimes animated, relevant to the message of the week.

Before 27 March 2014, these models were predefined in the cache, often being unrelated to the text. Since then the models on the side can be anything, and be hotfixed mid week, commonly seen for Summits and past Deadman mode events. Additionally they can be world specific, with high risk worlds, Quest Speedrunning, and event worlds having unique messages of the week. In RuneScape 2's history messages of the week were sometimes different on free-to-play worlds, this has never been the case for Old School RuneScape.

If a player has not logged in for over 2 weeks, a custom message of the week will override the current one. A gallery of these unique messages of the week can be found here.

Clicking the bottom banner will open the relevant news post for that banner, the welcome back banner will send the player to the news archive for that current month.

History

Before 27 March 2014, only preset interfaces could be used in the cache, meaning only certain models could be shown beside the banner, new ones were added for certain updates.
