Kill credit is a game mechanic that determines whether the player will receive credit and/or loot for defeating a monster. Kill credit can be measured in various ways, depending on the activity and game mode played in. Normal users will generally receive kill credit for dealing the final hit to the monster. Specific achievements will have different requirements, such as using a specific weapon for the final hit or killing the monster without taking any specific damage.
Ironman Mode
Accounts in Ironman Mode have various restrictions placed upon them. One of the core restrictions for Ironmen is the inability to receive aid in any way. For Ironmen, a kill will not count if another user attacks the same monster that the Ironman is engaged in combat with[1]. The Ironman will also not receive any loot whatsoever if another player has attacked the monster they are engaged in combat with. This restriction is applied in every case, even when the other user deals zero point of damage to the monster.
To prevent tanking, the Ironman player will not receive any kill credit if the monster is attacking other users more than it is attacking the Ironman. This restriction is also applied to Achievement Diary tasks that involve monster kills that can be earned easier if assisted by another player. Additionally, any monsters drawn into combat by another user who has used a Goading Potion will not count towards the Ironman's kill count.
The Ironman will however receive kill credit if the monster's hit points have been lowered by other monsters or other NPCs.
