An Existential Crisis

An Existential Crisis is an unreleased quest not accessible in the game. The quest would have been started by talking to Izel who is dealing with Hugh who is not looking great. The quest summary is "Assist a man having an existential crisis." The quest assets were added to the game on 23 July 2025 with the release of Varlamore: The Final Dawn which included four quests, and another unfinished quest, Impending Chaos.

Besides the unused quest summary, various pieces of content related to the quest can be found in the game files, though they are inaccessible in-game. These include:

• Other versions of Hugh with "Talk-to" options can be found in the cache, including one version where he is standing, rather than laying on the ground.
• Mind mender, an unobtainable item, has the config name aec_mind_mender, clearly linking it to the quest. The mind mender is also directly adjacent in the cache to Caerula berries, indicating that they may be related.
• Unused objects with the aec_ prefix in their cache name can also be found in the game files, including aec_illusion_tile and aec_illusion_debug_cube. These are adjacent in the cache to the Caerula bush object, further supporting the link between the berries and the quest.
